The IJALBA Extra Virgin olive oil has been produced from our plantations located in a border area for olive cultivation in La Rioja Alta (Higher Rioja), where lower yields in olives are obtained. The olives have more aroma.
Sharing space with our oldest vineyards, olive groves with traditional native varieties were the reason Viña Ijalba wanted to make its own olive oil.
In the last decade these old trees have been complemented with new groves in several Riojan municipalities.
Until 2000 the olives were harvested and transformed into oil in a mill for solely personal consumption.
Since 2001 Viña Ijalba works together with a Trujal (olive oil mill) of recent construction in La Rioja to process and package Viña Ijalba’s extra virgin olive oil.
